The Dato’ Jaafar Building, also known as the Magnificent Figures Museum at the top of Bukit Senyum Jalan Yahya Al-Dattar, is the official residence of the first Johor Menteri Besar, Dato’ Jaafar bin Mohammad.
It was built in 1893 with an area of 100 acres in Bukit Senum, Johor Bahru and the building was completed in 1896.
This building was once also used as the first Language Teaching College, the Japanese and British military headquarters, the Office of the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Community Development Department (KEMAS). Finally this building was handed over to Yayasan Warisan Johor to be used as a Figure Museum.
The design of this building resembles a traditional English house such as Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire, England.
Now, the Johor Menteri Besar’s residential building has been turned into a Figures Museum where information and artefacts related to the figures of the state of Johor are collected, preserved and displayed as treasures and recognition for the figures and leaders who are an inspiration to the people of Johor.
