About Mersing

Mersing is a town in Johor, Malaysia. It remains as a fishing village despite the developing city centre of Johor Bahru. It is the main departure spot for many islands. One can access various islands from Mersing jetty such as the Rawa Island, Dayang Island, Aur Island, Pemanggil Island and more. As it is a fishing village, purchasing seafood there is the best thing to do. You can get fresh seafood with affordable prices. There are also cafes and fast food chains around apart from the stalls of local delicacies. The top Johor hotels in Mersing are the Sea Gypsy Village Resort and Hotel Timotel.

There are quite a few attractions nearby. If you are a nature – lover, do spend some time stopping by the national park in Johor, namely the Endau Rompin National Park with fascinating flora and fauna there. Pulau Hujong is too, near to Mersing town with approximately 14km away. It is the ideal spot for relaxation session.

Established in 1993, the 48,905-ha Endau-Rompin (Johor) National Park is the largest protected area in the southern half of Peninsular Malaysia. This ancient rainforest realm in north-eastern Johor is a treasure trove of biodiversity, and a critical habitat so important for the survival of the country’s globally-threatened megafauna, including the Malayan Tiger, Malayan Tapir and Asian Elephant.
Endau-Rompin’s beautiful landscape and rare flora and creatures make jungle trekking the foremost activity for visitors. Featuring 250-million year old rock formations and prominent sandstone plateaus, you can find unique varieties of plant life, including enormous umbrella palms, in the park. Additionally it is Malaysia’s last refuge for the Sumatran rhinoceros and is a tiger habitat – although these beasts are rarely spotted; the park’s birdlife includes red jungle fowls, black hornbills and grey wagtails.

GETTING AROUND JOHOR BY BUS

Visitors to Johor Bahru can travel to different places within the city by using its extensive bus service network. The buses have destination boards and mostly operate from Larkin Central or the main bus stops in the city centre opposite of City Square (a shopping mall linked to the Malaysian Customs). The fares for the majority of the buses are relatively cheap and they also cater to travellers who are heading to the outskirts of Johor.
