Turning Tangkak Into Ecotourism Hotspot

LOCATED in the north of Johor, Tangkak’s position as the northern entry point to the state could see it marketed as an ecotourism destination to attract local and foreign tourists.

Datuk Tee Siew Kiong, adviser to the Johor Mentri Besar, said the district was blessed with natural resources and landmarks such as Gunung Ledang and various agricultural developments.

“Its geographical location of being right next to Melaka also gives it a lot of potential to be developed into an ecotourism hotspot.

“The legend of Puteri Gunung Ledang can be used to attract visitors to discover the district’s mystical attractions.

“Local tourism operators should make use of the district’s unique characteristics as selling points to strengthen Tangkak’s position as an ecotourism destination,” he added.

Aside from that, tourists could sample durian during their visit too, as Tangkak was well known as a producer of the king of fruits, said Tee, who is also former state tourism, domestic trade and consumer affairs committee chairman.

He was part of the team that followed Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad on a working visit to Tangkak recently.

The purpose of the visits to each of the 10 districts in Johor is to gather insights and views of the people before the state government tables the Johor Budget 2022 later this month.

Tee said that promoting the development of agricultural technology to help in Johor’s economic recovery was among the state government’s focus.

“The state is looking to develop Tangkak in that sense. Interested enterprises or parties looking to expand in this field can consider investing in the district to uplift its image and competitive edge as a whole,” he said.
